Ma & Park recently represented a restaurant client in Bergen County, NJ, who only received a portion of the full limit of insurance for Loss of Business Income during Covid due to a pipe burst. During the height of the pandemic, Ma & Park had a successful closing for the purchase of a standalone built out Starbucks, located at Ditmars Blvd., Astoria Queens. We reviewed the existing lease with Starbucks, negotiated the contract price, drafted the purchase agreement while for both the Purchaser and the Seller, this transaction was a 1031 Exchange.

Insightful Tip

Prior to submitting an insurance claim, always look at the policy, especially all Exclusion language.  Be aware that any communication or correspondence dealing with the insurance company for an insurance claim can be used to deny the claim and/or limit the amount of payment.  Depending on the size of the claim, it may be in your best interest to consult with an insurance specialist.
